Shipping to the US

Shipping handmade tools from Aotearoa New Zealand to the US has become more complex in recent years due to changes in US import rules and border processing.

I know how frustrating it can be to place an international order and then be asked to pay additional charges when the parcel arrives — so I’ve designed my US shipping process specifically to avoid surprise fees.

US shipping is calculated automatically at checkout, and it includes:

  • International postage

  • Border handling fees

  • Estimated US import tariffs (20%)

The total you see at checkout is the final amount you’ll pay. There are no additional customs invoices after dispatch.

How We Calculate the Costs

International shipping has a fixed base cost. That means very small orders can feel expensive to send on their own.

In general, bigger orders spread that base cost across more tools — so the shipping makes more sense relative to what you’re buying.

Here’s a general guide:

You’re always welcome to order a single item, but many US customers choose to combine a few pieces into one shipment so the overall cost feels more balanced.

If You’ve Ordered Before (Using RFQ)

If you’ve previously ordered through the RFQ process:

  • Shipping is now calculated instantly at checkout.

  • Tariffs and border handling are included in the shipping tier.

  • There won’t be any additional invoices or surprises after dispatch.

The structure is the same — it’s simply clearer and easier to navigate.
