Briar Rose Plate & Side — Double-Sided Companion Texture Set
A two-sided texture set designed to give both surfaces of your plate a considered finish.
Briar Rose Plate & Sides brings together two Magpie ideas in one tool: the Footring Collection and the Companion Texture technique.
The underside features a detailed central Briar Rose composition, formed within the widely spaced foot needed for a functional dinner plate. The shallow neat foot worked perfectly on it's own, or if you'd rather have a deeper foot - allows a perfect guide for adding your own coil.
The coordinating top-side texture is lighter and more open, creating a delicate botanical rim while leaving generous negative space through the centre of the plate.
Use the two textures together to sandwich your clay slab, pressing a different but coordinated design into each side before forming your plate.
Rather than simply repeating the same artwork front and back, each side has been designed for its particular role: a richly detailed underside to make the base worth turning over, and a quieter surface on top that allows food, glaze and form to remain part of the composition.
Available in two sizes:
Side Plate Companion Set — $60
Includes top and underside textures sized at 200mm diameter for a side plate.Dinner Plate Companion Set — $85
Includes top and underside textures sized at 300mm diameter for a dinner plate.
These designs are also part of the expanding Briar Rose Studio Collection — a family of coordinated tools for creating tableware that belongs together without every piece being identical.
Using your Companion Textures
Roll your slab to be slightly thicker than your preferred thickness (some thickness will be lost in the pressing of both sides). Press and peel one surface first, then allow the texture to set up before forming. The slab can then be formed over or into your chosen plate mold.
As with all Magpie Texture Co. tools, these are designed as making tools rather than finished-form molds, leaving plenty of room for your own glaze, construction and finishing choices to become part of the piece.
