A complete coordinated mug design featuring rambling wild roses, rosehips and foliage, created to flow naturally across the body, base and handle of a handmade mug.
 
Briar Rose – Mug Set is the first design in the Briar Rose collection, and the first of Magpie’s Mug Sets — a step beyond a standard Mug Sheet, with coordinating textures for all three main elements of the mug.
 
The main body texture features a loose trail of briar roses winding across the slab, with open blooms, leaves and rosehips arranged to give the design movement without filling every space. Rather than simply ending at the body, small details continue onto the handle and base, giving the finished mug a beautifully considered feel from every angle.
The round base features its own compact arrangement of roses, hips and foliage, creating a lovely little detail when the mug is lifted. It has been designed without an integrated foot, leaving you free to keep the base flat, gently shape it, or add your own foot if you prefer.
A slender briar stem winds along the handle, finishing in a single rosehip. It is intentionally light and delicate so that it complements the main body rather than competing with it.
Together, the three textures create a mug that feels cohesive and resolved while still leaving plenty of room for the maker to make it their own through form, clay, glaze and finishing.
