A repeating dragonfly pattern designed to bring movement and structure to functional pottery.
Dragonfly Field is a full-sized EVA foam texture sheet (380 x 380mm), developed to read clearly across large surfaces while remaining adaptable to curved and vertical forms. The dragonflies vary in scale and orientation, creating a sense of flow without forming rigid rows or obvious repeats.
The pattern holds together at distance and rewards closer inspection, making it well suited to work intended as part of a set.
Best suited for
Dinner plates and side plates
Serving bowls and platters
Pitchers and pouring forms
Vases and tall cylindrical work
Used across multiple forms, Dragonfly Field creates visual continuity without forcing uniformity — ideal for cohesive tableware, coordinated vessels, or repeatable series.
Material & care
Laser-engraved EVA foam
Flexible, durable, and easy to handle
Best used on soft clay
Clean with mild soap and a soft brush
Avoid high heat and prolonged direct sunlight
Finish:
Laser-engraved texture. A dark residue may transfer to clay on the first impression. This is a by-product of the laser process and will burn out completely during firing, leaving no residue in the finished piece.
Why potters use it
Dragonflies remain distinct across the full sheet
Reads cleanly on both flat slabs and curved forms
Scale variation avoids obvious repetition
Supports glaze movement without dominating surface finish
Reliable peel and release in soft clay
This is a texture that works hard in the background while still being legible as a design choice.
Designed as part of a system
Dragonfly Field is sized to work seamlessly with the Magpie Dinnerware System. Use it as an all-over surface, or combine it with masks and templates to frame sections, reserve areas, or align placement across a coordinated body of work.
